Dr. Elisa Choi has been fortunate to be involved in various NAAAP Boston events and programs in years past, as a participant, invited speaker, and invited panelist, before joining the NAAAP Boston Board of Directors in 2013. NAAAP’s mission to cultivate, empower, and inspire leaders to achieve professional excellence, and to contribute in meaningful ways to their communities, resonates with her personally. Dr. Choi has been a member of the Governance Committee of NAAAP Boston’s Board of Directors. She has been an active participant in NAAAP Boston signature events, and is contributing efforts toward the organization’s membership development. Dr. Choi looks forward to the opportunity to continue her service to NAAAP Boston’s Board of Directors for 2016-2017.

Dr. Choi is a physician practicing in internal medicine, HIV medicine, and infectious diseases, and has extensive experience in clinical education and research efforts. She as a strong interest in culturally competent care of health issues and disparities that affect the Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. Dr. Choi has held numerous leadership roles in her career, and has been the recipient of several leadership awards professionally. She is actively involved in various community organizations which have focused part or all of their missions on the AAPI communities in our region and state. Dr. Choi has extensive Board experience in, and holds leadership positions within these community organizations.

She is a long-standing Board member and Board Chair Emeritus of MAP (Massachusetts Asian & Pacific Islanders) for Health, a non-profit community-based organization, which works to improve health care access, disease prevention, and service delivery for MA AAPI communities.

Additionally, Dr. Choi is the Vice President of the Board of Directors of Company One Theatre, a Boston-based and nationally acclaimed theatre company which strives to “change the face of Boston theatre”, and has been supportive of AAPIs in the theatrical arts. She oversees board development and participates in strategic planning for this organization.

Dr. Choi is an appointed Commissioner on the Asian American Commission (AAC) of the Commonwealth of MA, a statute-enabled government organization whose goal is to advocate for and on behalf of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders within the state. Dr. Choi is the Chair of the Healthcare Subcommittee of the Commission and has served as Vice Chairperson of the AAC.
